KARACHI - Rangers on Wednesday claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions and arresting over a dozen suspects in various operations and raids conducted in different parts of the city. “The Rangers personnel, on a tip-off, conducted a raid at MQM’s Sector 1-A, Orangi Town, and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions,” said Rangers spokesperson in a statement.

The weapons, hidden inside a shop, included three sub-machineguns (SMGs), three 8mm rifles, four 7mm rifles, one 22bore rifle, one 30bore rifle, one mouser, one 12bore repeater, five pistols, 10 RPG-7 rockets, 12 RPG-7 premiers, 1840 ammunitions of G-3 rifle, 12960 ammunitions of SMGs and 8250 ammunitions of light machineguns (LMGs).

Meanwhile, security agencies raided Mustafa Mosque in Block 16, FB Area and arrested two sons of the mosque’s cleric. Sources said that both Anwar and Ehtesham were shifted to unknown location for interrogation. Police and Rangers also carried out various operations in District West and picked up over a dozen suspects and shifted them to undisclosed location for investigation. Sources in police told this scribe that operation against militant outfits had been sped up following sectarian attacks in the city. Meanwhile a man killed his wife at his home located in the outskirts of the city over a domestic dispute on Wednesday.  A 28-year-old woman, identified as Bilqees, was shot once in her forehead and died on the spot in her house located at Qaimkhani Colony in Baldia Town. Police reached site of the incident and collected the evidences. Disclosing the results of initial investigation, police officials said that the woman, a mother of a minor son, was shot dead by her husband, Iqbal. SHO Shakeel Sherwani said that the accused, who was a milkman by profession, managed to escape after committing the crime.


 The officer further informed that a case had been registered and the police was trying to arrest Iqbal while further investigation was underway.
