DERA GHAZI KHAN - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that rehabilitation of the flood victims is the responsibility of the government and it would definitely deliver in this regard.
Talking to the media after his visit to the flood relief camp set up at children home, he said that the issue regarding the breach in DG Khan Canal was being probed by a high level committee while a stern action would be taken against the responsible elements.
He further said that the hill torrent played havoc in Dera Ghazi Khan but due to illness he could not visit the area timely. He appreciated the role of Senior Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, district administration and NGOs for their meritorious services. Mr Shahbaz said that all the flood-hit areas including the Siddique Abaad were being surveyed and it would be completed in one week. He added that the Punjab government would utilise all its resources to rehabilitate them at the earliest. He announced that government will provide financial assistance to the owners whose houses were completely or partially damaged during the flood of the hill torrents. He also said that he himself would monitor this activity. He said that the families have been compensated for the deaths during floods while permanent measures will be taken to fight the floods.
Expressing his satisfaction over the sewerage system of the city, he said that mega sewerage system completed by the provincial government helped facilitate the flood victims for early drainage of the flood water. Earlier, the chief minister met the flood victims and inquired about their health and loss.
He was welcomed by PML.N MNA Shehnaz Saleem Malick, MPAs Sardar Mir Badshah Khan, Muhammad Amjad Farooq Khosa, Muhammad Hassanudding Khosa, Dost Muhammad Khosa, MPA Fateh Muhammad Khan and administration officers. Sradar Zulfiqar Khosa was also accompanying the chief minister.
At the flood relief camp, Minister for Agriculture Malick Ahmed Ali welcomed the chief minister. It must be mentioned that PML.N MNA Sardar Muhammad Saifuddin did not attend the event.
