LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has claimed that peace cannot return to Karachi as long as the MQM is part of the government.

He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Mansoora on Wednesday over the lawlessness in Karachi in which two of the JI leaders, Dr Pervez Mehmood and Abdul Wahid were assassinated in the last two days.

He said that the people of the port city were creating unity among their ranks in order to free themselves from the grip of the extortionists and the target killers, and the fascism of the MQM.

JI chief maintained that the Sindh government had tried to sabotage their strike against the target killings of their two leaders by staging violent demonstrations and arresting hundreds of JI workers and placing party’s Ameer Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Mehnati under house arrest.

He said that a garments factory was gutted in the port city a few days ago for which the people were raising fingers on the MQM ministers. Munawar also condemned the bomb blast in Peshawar and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families.

The JI chief thanked the people of Karachi, traders, political and religious parties for making the strike successful.

Meanwhile, JI ameer Lahore, Ameer-ul-Azeem led the protest rally at Multan Road against the killings of two of their leaders in Karachi in which scores of party activists took part besides leaders.

They chanted anti-government slogans and leaders of the coalition parties, besides demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishments.  The countrywide protest rallies and demonstrations were held on the call of JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan.
