LAHORE - PIA pilot who was arrested by Bradford police on the charges of being drunk before operating a flight on Wednesday has immediately been grounded and suspended by the airlines management, said sources in PIA.

The pilot had consumed alcohol to the extent that he became unfit for flying.

PIA spokesperson said pilot was the captain of PK-776 from Leeds-Bradford to Islamabad on Wednesday. Due to unavailability of any alternate captain the flight had to make a night stop at Leeds. Later the flight departed with a delay of 15 hours. The pilot is still in custody of British police for further investigation.

Referring to another incident of exhibiting poor behavior by three flight stewards in Manchester, the PIA spokesperson said the management had suspended them too. They were taken into custody by Manchester police on complaint made by a British lady. The investigation is still in process.

The spokesperson said PIA was not responsible for violation of rules or code of conduct committed by its employees.

PIA would never provide legal or other assistance to any individual for his act of violation. Upon receipt of final report the violators would face further severe action according to rules of the corporation, the spokesperson concluded.
