Women urged to participate in elections

LAHORE - The role of women in any election cannot be denied and the women should participate in the upcoming local bodies’ elections.
These ideas were expressed by speakers at Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan that organised a seminar on ‘Importance of Women Home based Workers particulars participation in upcoming Local Government Elections’ at HNPIP Auditorium near China Chowk here the other day.
Rana Muhammad Arshad parliamentary secretary presided over while speakers included Taseer Mustafa, Salman Abid, Home Net officer Maria Kaukab, and worker Kishwar Sultana.
HNPIP Director Absar Abdul Ali was the moderator.
Rana Arshad threw light on the role of women in the elections. He also said the reasons behind delay in the local bodies’ elections. He said that the litigation was another reason behind the delay.
Taseer Mustafa said that LBs play an important role in the development of democracy. He said that there is least role of home based workers in the elections as the owners fight on the seats reserved for the workers.
Salman Abid said that the need was to promote women in politics and for this purpose we should facilitate them in the election process.
Other speakers also highlighted problems being faced by the women candidates during the campaign.
