LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday granted protective bail to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) General Secretary Khurram Nawaz Gandapur who along with other leaders of the party was booked in the first FIR of Model Town incident which claimed lives of 14 people and left 100 others severely injured.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur appeared before a division bench headed by Justice Abdul Sami Khan, along with his legal team comprising Rai Bashir, Ishtiaq Chaudhary and Naeemuddin Chaudhary.

His legal team contended that leader apprehended that he might be arrested while going to an anti-terrorism court to record his statement.  They made a request for protective bail for their client.  After hearing arguments of the petitioner’s counsel, the bench accepted their plea and allowed the bail till September 23. The bench directed the police not to arrest him.
