HAFIZABAD-The in-service doctors of government hospitals are allegedly encouraging quacks in the district due to their political influence, posing great threat to public health.

According to a survey conducted by this correspondent, more than one hundred quacks across the district are running their illegal business because they have hired the services of doctors and even specialists (in papers only) and displayed their names at their premises. Moreover, almost all the in-service doctors have set up their own private clinics and most of them refer their patients who visit the government hospital to visit his/her clinic for better treatment where they are allegedly fleecing the patients. The lady doctors are not lag behind their male counterparts and they refer most of the maternity patients to their private clinic where they allegedly “slaughter them with blunt knives.”

The provincial government has recently appointed more doctors including specialists in the DHQ hospital Hafizabad and THQ Pindi Bhattian. But, ironically, most of them least bother perform their duty at government hospitals.

Local citizens have called upon the provincial government to impose ban on in-service doctors to run their private clinics and take stringent measures to eliminate quackery. They also demanded better healthcare in public sector hospitals for the common man.

PROTEST AGAINST ILLEGAL OCCUPATION

The inhabitants of Mohallah Dostpura near Sem Nullah have protested against illegal construction on state land by influential persons and have called upon the DPO and district administration to stop the illegal construction.

According to the dwellers of the locality, there are more than 17 kanal of land owned by the Punjab Auqaf Department which has been used by the children and youth as playground. But during the past few days, a brother of policeman and others influential persons have started illegal construction over the land. They regretted that the land worth millions of rupees is a state trust and all officials are supposed to protect it. They demanded prompt action against the land grabbers and retrieval of the land from the ‘illegal possession.’
