KASUR-A proclaimed offender, wanted in more than 13 cases of heinous crimes, was shot dead by his accomplices during an exchange of firing with police here the other day.

According to the Ellahabad Police, the deceased identified as Akram alias Akki was arrested from Kanganpur and during interrogation, he assured the police of help in arresting his accomplices. The police escorted him to a hideout where his accomplices had holed up. As the police reached Attari Road, his accomplices attacked the police contingent and got Akki released from the police custody. The police went after the criminals at which the accused opened indiscriminate fire, prompting the police retaliate. When the firing stopped, the police went ahead and found Akram injured after being shot by his accomplices. The police recovered arms from his possession and shifted him to hospital but he died on the way. The police constituted a special team to arrest the escaped criminals.

WOMAN, MAN KILLED

A woman was axed to death over enmity. According to police, a woman was axed to death over enmity in Basti Mehrwala. The police said that Munir Ahmed quarrelled with Liaquat Ali at which the latter kept the former hostage in a room of his house. As soon as Munir’s brothers - Rasheed, Nazeer etc - were informed, they stormed Liaquat’s house and axed his wife dead. They also tortured Liaquat until he fell unconscious. The Kanganpur Police registered a case against the accused.

In another incident, a man was killed in collision between two motorbikes on Multan Road. According to police, Ashraf, a resident of Changa Manga, was on the way back home on a motorbike. As he reached near Jumber Chowk, a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction collided with him, killing him on the spot.
