LAHORE - Accepting offer of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, an internationally renowned German firm yesterday agreed to provide technical assistance to the Punjab government in the Saaf Paani project which has been carried out over the last two years.

The German experts will provide technical assistance to Punjab government in capacity-building of Saaf Pani companies.

Welcoming the announcement, the chief minister has directed the department concerned to form a committee to submit final recommendations in this regard. He said that German experience and skills would prove very useful in furthering this programme.

Project Director Friedrich Fahriaender said that they would provide all possible technical assistance to Saaf Pani programme in accordance with the CM’s vision.

The Chief Minister said that Punjab government has evolved a major programme to make availability of clean drinking water to citizens through “Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme”. He said that under Programme, the same drinking water will be provided to the citizens as is available to the elite.

Provincial Minister for Housing Tanvir Aslam Malik, Chairman Saaf Pani Company northern Punjab Maj (r) Tahir Iqbal, Chairman southern Punjab Kashif Padhiyar MPA, chief secretary and other officials concerned were also present on the occasion.


Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon visit Belarus, in order to benefit Punjab with the Belarusian expertise in automobile sector.

Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Ermolovich called on CM Shehbaz Sharif yesterday and discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral relations and promotion of cooperation in different sectors.

The CM praised the friendly relations between Pakistan and Belarus, while underscoring the need for taking solid steps to strengthen trade and economic ties between the two countries. He underlined the need of increasing exchange of visit of the trade delegations in order to promote economic cooperation.

Shehbaz also highlighted the vast scope of investment in agriculture, mining, livestock, industry and other sectors in Punjab, inviting Belarusian investors to take benefit from investment opportunities in the province.

Ambassador Andrei Ermolovich said that his country attaches high importance to its relations with Pakistan especially Punjab and wants promotion of trade relations between the two countries.

Provincial Minister for Industries Ch Muhammad Shafiq, MPA Ali Raza Gillani, Chairman Punjab Investment Board, Secretary Industries and officers concerned were present on the occasion.
