NAB summons PTI, Q, N leaders over corruption

LAHORE – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab has issued notices to the leaders of three political parties including PML-N, PML-Q and PTI in different corruption cases to appear before the Bureau.

Three notices were issued to PTI leader Abdul Aleem Khan in as many months over his alleged illegal housing schemes including Park View Housing Scheme, River Edge and Vision Developers. On which Mr. Khan remained unmoved and after serving of fourth notice, he approached Lahore High Court and got the NAB notices suspended.

NAB then approached court and pleaded that Mr. Khan was main accused in the case and the Bureau had sufficient evidence of his involvement in malpractices. The court accepted the request of the NAB and fixed November 22 for hearing of the case. The NAB issued first notice to Aleem Khan on May 31, second on June 05, third on July 11 and fourth on July 27 last.

Call up notices were issued under section 19 of NAO 1999 inquiry against Aleem Khan, former MPA and management of Park View Villas, River Edge and others. The notice speaks, “whereas the competent authority has taken the cognizance on the complaint forwarded by Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) against management of M/S Vision Developers (Pvt) Ltd under the provision of National Accountability Ordinance 1999”.

The notice further reads, “You were directed to provide the record of Park View Villas Housing Scheme instead of River Edge Housing Scheme vide letter but you failed to produce the same”.

The NAB authorities summoned Aleem Khan on July 27 last to appear before Bureau and record his statement but instead of appearing before NAB Mr. Khan approached the court to get the notices suspended.

The Bureau has also demanded documents and record of housing schemes from Aleem Khan. The documents demanded include, ownership documents of land of Park View Villas Housing Scheme, Copy of layout plan along with NOC from LDA and copy of revised layout plan. Details about the total number of plots mentioned in the layout plan, number of plots sold, allotted, transferred to the members or purchasers. Number of remaining plots, number of mortgaged, pledged plots with LDA of any financial institution. Details of amenities plot along with area and current status of the scheme.

A NAB officer, seeking anonymity, told The Nation that the Bureau, in order to refute the impression that it was making only PPP leaders accountable, had started action against all parties’ leaders. He said the NAB had also summoned Ishaq Dar and his family members in the coming week. The NAB will shortly start proceedings of a case against Choudharys wherein Ch Pervaiz Elahi of PML-Q was involved in making illegal appointments when he was Punjab chief minister.

The NAB has asked LDA to provide record of all controversial and illegal housing schemes in the city. He was of the view that in most of the cases political leaders were involved in establishment of illegal housing schemes.
