Khurshid, Aitzaz empowered to talk to govt: Bilawal

LAHORE – Speaking in the context of an anticipated high-level contact between the PPP and the PML-N on the issue of delimitations, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto yesterday said that his party had empowered its Parliamentary leaders in both houses of Parliament to have talks with the government side.

Talking to the media at the wedding ceremony of PPP leader Ch Manzoor Ahmad’s nephew here, Bilawal ruled out the possibility of any meeting with Mian Nawaz Sharif, stating he was not a reliable man.

“There is no question of meeting a person who always betrayed the PPP on many occasions. Whenever we had a handshake with Mr Sharif, he would deceive us,” Bilawal stated.

He further stated that his party believed in democracy and had authorised its Parliamentary leaders [Khurshid Shah and Aitzaz Ahsan] to talk to the government side on all issues of national importance. Declaring the PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif a threat to democracy, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said he (Nawaz) did not know even the true meaning of ideology.   Bilawal termed Nawaz Sharif an opportunist who would change his stance only for his personal interest.

He remarked that Nawaz Sharif was not an ideological person in any respect.

“He does not even know the true meaning of ideology”, the PPP Chairman observed.

Bilawal further stated that Nawaz Sharif had always conspired against democracy. “Whenever a conspiracy was hatched against the democracy, he was part of it”, he observed.

Bilawal also asked Nawaz Sharif to act upon the advice he had given to PPP Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in the past.

“Think about democracy and give due respect to the Army setting aside your personal problems,” the PPP chief advised the PML-N leader.

He stated that democracy in Pakistan was passing through its initial phase, adding, that his party believed in civilian supremacy and had struggled hard to strengthen the democratic process. Replying to a question about Hafiz Saeed, the PPP Chairman said that he did not know about his release, but the only thing he knew was that Pakistan should always watch its own interest instead of pleasing the US and India.

“If we are to become a strong democracy, we should always think about Pakistan and not about India and America”, he stated.

Nonetheless, the PPP chief said that State should discourage the militants and those who dare challenge its writ.

To a question about Ishaq Dar, he questioned how a person could sign country’s cheques when he could not sign even his personal cheques.
