Detention of BB murder suspects extended

LAHORE –  A Lahore High Court review board on Tuesday extended for 90 days detention of five persons acquitted by an anti-terrorism court of murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.  The Punjab government produced five persons — Rafaqat Hussain, Sher Zaman, Hasnain Gull, Abdul Rasheed and Aitzaz Shah — before the review board and sought extension in their detention for 90 days. The board headed by Justice Abdul Sami Khan accepted the government’s plea and extended detention of the TTP men for 90 days.  An Anti-Terrorism Court of Rawalpindi had acquitted the five persons and declared former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf an absconder in the case.  The same court awarded had 17-year imprisonment each to two senior police officers, Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad, for showing negligence in security arrangements for Bhutto on Dec 27, 2007 outside Liaqat Bagh in Rawalpindi. However, the Lahore High Court later suspended their sentence.
