ATC releases 73 arrested from Faizabad sit-in


ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday released on bail 73 men arrested from the Faizabad sit-in staged by members of religious outfits.

The ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand heard the bail petitions of the arrested protesters. While approving the bail applications of the 73 detainees, the judge extended judicial remand of 47 other protesters. An identity parade will be held for the 47 accused, who have been shifted to Adiala Jail. The court ordered the released protesters to submit surety bonds worth Rs10,000.

Among the released protesters, 41 were held at Aabpara Police Station, sixteen at Khanna Police Station and sixteen at I-9 Police Station.

The authorities had started releasing protesters arrested during the operation at Faizabad on Monday, hours after the sit-in was called off by the protest leaders.–INP


AIOU’s journal on seerat wins special award


Islamabad: A research journal on Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) recently published by Allama Iqbal Open University has been declared the best academic publication of the year 2017.

The publication will receive a special award at a national seerat conference to be held on December 2 in Islamabad in connection with celebrations of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The journal was adjudged the best by the Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs. The journal is aimed at seeking guidance and aspirations from Quran and Sunnah for society reformation and having a better life both at individual and collective levels.

Some famous names who contributed to the journal include Dr Razaq Asood from Saudi Arabia and Dr Yaseen Mazhar Siddiqui from Ali Ghar Muslim University, New Delhi.

While launching the journal, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, VC AIOU, stated that Quran and seerat-un-Nabi was a complete code of life for the Muslims to have a successful life here and hereafter.

He was of the view that merely economic development would not be enough for bringing real change in the life of the people. Socio aspect, in term of values, attitude and thinking in light of Islamic teaching is also important for achieving the desired results, he said.–INP
