Mayor for upgrading Safari Park

KARACHI – Mayor Wasim Akhtar said efforts were on to transform Safari Park into an international standard recreation park. Private organisations would be encouraged if they come up with any plan to develop city parks and recreation centres on international standard.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting held to discuss improvement plan for Safari Park and other parks of the city. The meeting was attended by the chairman works committee Hasan Naqvi, Farhat Khan, director municipal services Masood Alam, director technical services SM Shakaib and other officers.

The mayor said despite running the province and whole country, Karachi not getting what it deserves for development works.

He said in order to develop parks in Karachi joint ventures with private organisations were being worked out. Full cooperation would be provided to private organisations showed interest in the up-gradation of Safari Park. A review committee will be made in this connection to see all such matters and acceptable plan will be sent to the city council for approval.

The mayor said strategy being worked out to install more than 25 swings of international standard in Safari Park whereas making this huge park a natural habitat for animals and birds is given priority.

The meeting was informed that Safari Park to be developed as a theme park and offers from the organizations who showed interest in it would be reviewed by the committee.

The mayor said despite of limited resources elected representatives of the city were performing public welfare works. We want city parks to be up graded and transformed into high standard parks for citizens.

Earlier, Wasim Akhtar visited at construction and lying of sewerage line in sector L-1 of UC39 Surjani Town. He was accompanied by the chairman works committee Hasan Naqvi, parks committee chairman Khurram Farhan, UC chairman Zahid Bashir vice chairman, director general works Shahab Anwer and other officers on this occasion.

Talking to media the mayor said: “Supreme Court’s orders on encroachments will be implemented completely and all such encroachments established in playgrounds, parks, roads and other locations will be removed. We have got much support with these orders of Supreme Court. Cable operators must remove their cables from KMC roads otherwise these will be cut off.

We will be with anyone who works for Karachi. We did not mind it, If Sindh Government not invite us at inauguration of uplift works.”

The mayor sad this road of Surjani Town being constructed with cost of Rs20 million with this aim to solve the problems of residents of this area. He said henceforth works will be seen happening in every district because we will not let our voters down. He said solving problems of water sewerage is the responsibility of water board but we are doing their works.

He said meeting with chief minister Sindh are done regarding development works and their results coming now. We will go forward with this cooperation.

He said development works are being given priority and now we want to solve the problems of people as soon as possible.

“We will solve their problems in every area and doing development works on priority basis across the city”, he added.
