Media’s role in crime eradication acknowledged

HAFIZABAD – The district police have always appreciated positive criticism by journalists as they are eyes and ears of the society and their role for crime eradication is undeniable, DPO Dr Sardar Ghias Gul said.

Addressing mediamen here at local press club, he said that due to cooperation of all segments of society particularly mediamen, the district police bagged first position in the anti-crime campaign in all the 36 districts of Punjab. He said that hundreds of proclaimed offenders, anti-social elements, drug-peddlers, dacoits, rustlers, bike and car snatchers have been arrested, adding that stolen articles worth billion of rupees have also been recovered from them and handed over to the real owners over the past one year. Moreover, hundreds of disruptive elements have been rounded up under the National Action Plan, he added.

The DPO said that no one is perfect but positive thinking brings positivity which has also helped police emerge successful in anti-crime campaign launched in the district. He said that positive coordination of media is one of the reasons which enabled the district police to get first position in crime eradication in the whole province. DPO Sardar Ghias Gul said that he has taken several steps to purge black sheep from the police department and has been successful in changing the ‘thana culture’ in the district. He urged mediamen to continue their cooperation in weeding out crimes and criminals from the area.

To a question concerning traffic mess due to apathetic attitude of traffic police, he said that there are several stakeholders involved in the traffic hazards and it is also responsibility of the citizens particularly traders to cooperate with traffic police in removing traffic mess on roads. The DPO also assured mediamen of directing the traffic police officials in this regard.

To another query, the DPO assured that night patrol would be intensified to ensure an effective check on suspicious activities.
