‘Nigeria offers great investment opportunities for Pakistan’

Rawalpindi – Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Maj Gen (retd) Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi, has urged the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to explore investment opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade ties. He said that the business community can play a key role in boosting the trade between Pakistan and Nigeria. He was exchanging these views with the President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zahid Latif Khan in a meeting during his visit to the Chamber on Tuesday.

The Nigerian High Commissioner underlined the objective of his visit to RCCI and said that Nigeria and Pakistan have an identical history and share similar problems. However, unfortunately, the trade volume between the two countries has been very low and it is important to enhance bilateral trade ties.

He said that Nigeria offers great investment and business opportunities to Pakistan in a number of areas including oil and gas, pharmaceutical, textile, minerals and mining, shipping, agriculture, livestock and fisheries.

Speaking on the occasion President RCCI Zahid Latif Khan said that Pakistan and Nigeria enjoy cordial economic and political relations at all international forums including members of D-8 forum and Organization of Islamic countries (OIC).

He said that the business community on both sides should interact on a regular basis and exchange of trade delegations must be made on a monthly basis.

RCCI chief emphasized on the frequent exchange of trade delegations, increased liaison and trade information of potential buyers of Pakistani products in Nigeria, sector-specific delegation to Nigeria, Single Country exhibition at important cities in Nigeria and participation in trade exhibition in both countries.

Group leader Sohail Altaf, Senior Vice President Muhammad Nasir Mirza, Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, former presidents Mian Humayun Parvez, Raja Amer Iqbal and other members of the Chamber were also present on occasion.
