PTI supports PAT on Model Town issue

LAHORE –  Demanding registration of criminal case against Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and his Law Minister for their alleged involvement in the Model Town massacre, the PTI has announced its unflinching support for Dr Tahirul Qadri.

Addressing a news conference here, party’s Secretary Information, Shafqat Mehmood said his party fully backed the PAT over its stance on the Model Town report.

Shafqat called for resignation of Shehbaz Sharif and initiation of a criminal case against him in the court of law. He said that the Chief Minister had issued orders to open firing at the protesters.

He also demanded immediate arrest of Rana Sanaullah in the light of Baqar Najfi’s report which, according to him, had pointed finger at the Chief Minister and his close aide.

He said that it was crystal clear in the report that Shehbaz Sharif had not ordered disengagement of police as claimed by the two main culprits after the incident. Also, the PTI has moved the Punjab Assembly to seek resignation of Punjab Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah for his alleged involvement in Model Town operation and the resultant massacre of PAT workers.

PTI legislator Murad Raas submitted an adjournment motion in the Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday seeking Law Minister’s resignation.

Quoting Justice Najfi’s report, the motion said that the decision to launch the Model Town operation was made in a meeting chaired by Rana Sanaullah.

Rass in his motion has also contended that it is government’s responsibility to protect the life and property of people rather than plotting their killings by police.

INP adds: PTI chief Imran Khan on Wednesday demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah to step down in the wake of damning Model Town inquiry report.

In a statement on his Twitter account, the PTI chief said: “After the Najafi report revelations, CM Shehbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah should immediately resign for killing Pakistani citizens.”

A day earlier, the provincial government declassified the report of a judicial inquiry carried out by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court into the Model Town incident on the orders of a LHC larger bench.

The report, which was released after three years of the incident in which 14 supporters of Pakistan Awami Tehreek were killed, squares blame particularly on the provincial law minister and the Punjab police for the carnage.
