ECP launches mobile phone app

Islamabad – The Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday launched its mobile phone app for the awareness and information of the public about the vote and the overall electoral system.

President Mamnoon Hussain inaugurated the “Click ECP” app at a ceremony held at the President House.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Human Rights Barrister Usman Ibrahim, members of Parliament and diplomats were also present.

The president expressed satisfaction that the electoral system has entered a modern era. He said that experiments of the bio-metric system and electronic voting machines have also been inducted to further improve the electoral system and ensure greater transparency.

Hussain said that the technological advancement introduced by the ECP match international standards.

The president underscored the need for educating the young generation about the importance of the vote.

He said that the role of political parties, civil society and the media was equally important to educate the masses about the importance of their vote.

Hussain emphasized that every individual must realize that his fate could only be decided through his vote.

He said that it was necessary that apart from making electoral process functional, fast and transparent, the sanctity of the vote should be ingrained in minds of children from the early age.  Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan urged the general public to ensure the registration of their vote.

Earlier condemning the decision of the US president to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, President Hussain said that Pakistan would take up the issue at all available fora.

He expressed the confidence that the OIC meeting to be convened to review the situation would adopt a tough stand on the issue
