Police accused of torturing man to death

RAHIM YAR KHAN – The heirs of a deceased person on Monday staged a protest against the police for “what they claimed” torturing their beloved to death during the investigation of a murder case.

The protesters placed the dead body of Hazoor Bakhsh, 34, resident of Dera Shamas, at DC Office Chowk and blocked the adjacent road for traffic for hours, chanting slogans against the police.

The protesting heirs told the reporters that Hazoor Bakhsh, 34, had been picked up by police some 22 days back when the complainant of a murder case included the deceased person’s name in the alleged murder case.

“Hazoor Bakhsh was kept in Saddr police station and interrogated by homicide inspector Aslam Khan on baseless charges,” they claimed.

They further alleged that when they attempted to approach SP (Investigations) Shahnawaz Chachar with the request for investigation of Hazoor Bakhsh on merit, he refused meeting them.

They pledged they will continue the protest at level against the police brutality and death of their beloved one in custody.

When contacted PRO to RY Khan DPO Umar Saleem told the media that Hazoor Bakhsh was nominated in an FIR No 248/17 registered under section 302 by the Iqbalabad Police. He was released one month back because of kidney failure and was admitted to hospital, he informed. He said that police completed the 174 activity of post-mortem of the Bakhsh’s body and if its report confirms torture, the responsible officials would be held accountable.

Umar Saleem said that heirs of the deceased person were stopped from meeting the SP (investigations) because the officer was busy with some more important official matters.
