KDA vows to remove encroachments

KARACHI – The Karachi Development Authority has joined hands with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Sindh Building Control Authority to accomplish ongoing drive for evacuation of amnesty plots in the city on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

On Tuesday, Director General of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Samiuddin Siddiqui called a meeting, attended by Director General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Agha Maqsood Abbas and Municipal Commissioner Dr Asghar and other officials of above authorities.

While addressing the meeting Director General KDA, Samiuddin Siddiqui said that operation would continue with the collaboration of SBCA and KMC and vowed that the joint efforts will achieve positive results in the drive during two months specified by the Supreme Court.

Siddiqui said that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, DG Rangers and IG, police Sindh already supporting the drive.

“Following the instruction of Supreme court cooperation will be taken from other concerned departments”, he added.

Samiuddin Siddiqui said step must be taken to provide facilities to the citizens. “State and concern authorities will continue on a grand operation without any political pressure against all the residential plots which are used for commercial activities” Samiuddin Siddiqui added.  He said that due to China cutting KDA has lost its prestige and honor among the citizens and now it’s time to protect the KDA land from China Cutting and other encroachment.

During meeting Director General SBCA, Agha Maqasood Abbas and Municipal Commissioner Dr Asghar assured the Director General, KDA that their cooperation would be with them in ongoing grand operation against illegal occupation on state’s land.

It is worth to mentioning here that apex court has given deadline of two months to the concern authorities for removal of all sort of encroachment when it was revealed during court hearing that 35000 amnesty plots were illegally occupied in last 20 years. Following the court orders Karachi Development Authority claimed to have demolished around 100 of marriage halls, illegally constructed on KDA’s land. On the other side, Mayor Karachi also formed a task force to removal of illegal occupation on KMC’s land on the directives of Supreme Court.
