Visually impaired denied inheritance
OKARA - A man deprived his blind younger brother and his family of a 4-acre inherited land, house and cattle heads.
Maulvi Shahadat Ali, son of Salim Tejeka Wattoo, resident of Faqiria village, Basirpur lost his sight in extreme fever about 14 years ago.
He had four brothers. Moj Khan, the elder one, deprived Shahdat Ali of 4-acre land, home and cattle heads which had been inherited from father. Shahadat had an ailing wife, a suckling son and two minor daughters. Local Panchayat had given verdict in favour of Shahadat but Moj Khan took no pity on his blind brother and his family which is now living at Jhujh Kalan village near Hujra Shah Muqeem. Shahadat ran from pillar to post to gain his legal property back. He called on the DPO/DCO of the district who directed him to see Tahir Waheed, In-charge CIA Okara, for help. Now for the last two months, he had been coming to see the CIA in-charge but in vain.
Poverty, starvation and sickness had made life a living death for him. He demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif help him obtaining back his property from his brother
6 cops arrested for ‘killing prisoner’
KASUR-At least six police officials and three others were arrested for allegedly torturing a man in-custody to death here the other day.
Raja Jang police arrested Iqbal of Haveli Ghuttiyan Wali on a complaint, concerning theft, submitted by a citizen namely Amanat Ali. According to police, Iqbal suffered cardiac arrest at his first night in prison and died. Family of the deceased, on the other hand, accused the police of allegedly torturing their beloved to death. They blocked Raiwind Road and then Kasur Bypass as protest. An inquiry team, under the supervision of SP (investigation) Amjad Mehmood Qureshi, investigated the incident. The team arrested Raja Jang police SHO Zulfiqar Hameed, Sub Inspector Tahir Islam, Assistant Sub Inspectors – Amanat Ali, Asif Nadeem, Akbar Ghani, Moharrar Arshad and three others for their alleged involvement in the ‘murder’. Dead body of Iqbal has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
