Corrupt officials face the music

SARGODHA: An anti-corruption court handed down 15-year sentence and imposed a total fine of Rs4.5 million upon the four government officials for huge funds embezzlement here the other day. The court also sentenced their accomplice, a government contractor, to five years in prison and fined him Rs1.5 million. The convicts were identified as District Officer (roads) Saleem, Deputy District Officer (roads) Khalid, sub engineers – Najam Butt and Imtiaz Ahmed, and the government contractor namely Basharat. The ACE had filed a case against the accused over funds embezzlement of a billion rupee in road construction projects in Sargodha City. In light of the evidence, special judge anti-corruption court convicted the accused for the crime and announced the verdict.
