District West to have model graveyard: Mayor
KARACHI – Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Saturday that a model graveyard had been ordered for district west of the city, adding that every district of Karachi required two graveyards due to non-availability of space in the existing graveyards.
He said that action will be initiated against the encroachments of graveyards’ land in the metropolis,
He was talking to media representatives here at his office whereas director graveyards Iqbal Pervez, Chairman Finance Committee Nadeem Hidayat, Director Media Ali Hassan Sajid and other officers were also present.
Mayor Karachi said citizens have facing difficulties in the burial of their relatives due to shortage of space in the old graveyards of the city. Mayor Karachi directed director of graveyards to assess the documents related to the allocation of land to welfare organizations and associations for establishment of graveyards and also compile the record of all graveyards so proper assessment and future plans could be made in this connection.
He said it was essential owing to the complaints of the citizens that full and proper details are made available on the lands allocated for graveyards so that the use of such land could be ascertained.
He also directed to arrange for linking of all KMC graveyards’ record through computerized registration with the central office, because only 55 graveyards were registered out of 152 graveyards of the city, therefore their data must be prepared with full details on immediate basis.
He said bylaws regarding graveyards should be prepared without delay and all union council chairmen be informed that no death certificate should be issued without having KMC Challan.
