Families flay docs’ negligence

KAMALIA-Families protested against the negligence of doctors and staff of the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals here on Thursday.
Alleged negligence of doctors in the hospitals at Kamalia has raised concerns among the public amid tall government claims regarding provision of quality healthcare.
Protesting against the negligence doctors and staff, Shaban, a resident of Kamalia, held a sit-in along with his family and relatives at Kamalia-Chichawatni Road where they burnt tyres and blocked traffic for several hours. Shaban told The Nation that his wife had been admitted for normal delivery at the THQ Hospital Kamalia two days ago.
In the morning, her condition worsened but no gynaecologist was present in the hospital at which nurses referred her to DHQ Hospital Toba Tek Singh.
He added that the hospital staff threw them out at that wee hour without an ambulance to go to DHQ Toba Tek Singh which is 30 km away. He said that he took his wife on a motorcycle rickshaw to a private hospital at Chichawatni where doctors said that the baby had died in the womb.
In a separate incident, a gynaecologist and her female staff subjected a pregnant woman to torture and threw her out of the hospital. Concerned social circles have commented that abusive and uncaring attitude by the doctors and staff towards patients have become a routine at the THQ Kamalia.
AC Hafiz Najeeb put has formed an investigative committee to determine the facts and submit a report.
DC Irfan Nawaz took note at the news printed in The Nation on 7-December regarding unavailability of an ambulance at THQ Kamalia. He deputed an ambulance from Rescue 1122 department to be stationed at THQ Kamalia permanently.
