Sherpao rejects PTI’s demand for snap polls

PESHAWAR –  Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Saturday rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf call for snap poll, saying that the demand is illogical.

He was addressing a public meeting after the inauguration of a gas project in Kot Tarnab area of Charsadda.

Sherpao said that in case of a mid-term election, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa would be deprived of additional three seats in the National Assembly as the amendment for this purpose would not be possible.

Therefore, those favoring, he continued, early election wanted to shrink the representation of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the National assembly.

He added that the campaign for snap polls exposed such elements who were hell-bent to snatch three seats from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and one each from Baluchistan and Islamabad.

The QWP chief termed the nomination of the five-member parliamentary committee as a good omen which would oversee the proposed amendment in the Constitution about the enhancement of five seats in the National Assembly.  However, he said that the matter should not be further delayed.

Aftab Sherpao said that all the stakeholders should honor the apex court’s recent verdict, adding that nobody should be jubilant over the disqualification of a politician.

He asked that all political parties should work for the betterment of the country.

Sherpao said good ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan are of vital in the regional peace and stability. He contended that concerted efforts were required to end the turmoil in the region.

“The QWP would not sit idle and would continue to raise its voice for the welfare of Pakhtuns rights,” he added.

He said that the QWP always fulfilled its election promises, adding that the party has been working for the welfare of the masses and it would leave no stone unturned in this regard.

Earlier, Sherpao inaugurated the supply line of a Sui Gas project in the area. The project would benefit the local Population at large.
