Traders call for shifting district courts from F-8 Markaz

Islamabad – Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sheikh Amir Waheed on Saturday said that presence of district courts in F-8 Markaz was a major problem for business community of the area, calling upon relevant authorities to shift the courts from the Markaz as soon as possible to save traders from further losses.

A delegation of the chamber led by President ICCI Sheikh Amir Waheed visited F-8 Markaz and congratulated Sardar Tahir Mehmood on his unopposed election as president of Traders’ Welfare Association of the markaz. He hoped that the newly-elected office bearers of the TWA would play an effective role in promoting business interests of the traders of the area.

During the visit, the delegation also congratulated Raja Abdul Qadir on his election as senior vice president and Rana Javied Khursheed and Muhammad Imtiaz as vice presidents of the union. The delegation comprised Muhammad Naveed, Senior Vice President ICCI, Nisar Mirza, Vice President ICCI, Baser Daud, Khalid Chaudhry and others.

Speaking at the occasion, Sheikh assured that the ICCI would cooperate with the TWA F-8 Markaz in resolving key issues of the market. Other members of the delegation said that existence of the district courts in F-8 Markaz was not only a security threat for the lives of judges and lawyers; it was also creating difficulties for the traders and residents of the area. They called for early completion of Islamabad High Court building to pave way for shifting of the district courts from F-8 Markaz.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood, the newly-elected TWA president, thanked the ICCI for assuring cooperation in resolving issues of their market. He said that shifting of the offices of chief commissioner and deputy commissioner from F-8 to G-11/4 was a laudable step. He stressed that the courts and offices of the district administration should also be shifted from this important business centre of Islamabad to provide a better environment for business activities. He said that already, precious lives had been lost in F-8 Markaz due to acts of terrorism. He stressed that no further time should be lost in shifting the courts.

He also said that absence of a rent control act in Islamabad was giving rise to rent disputes as, he said, the traders were feeling insecure about future of their business. He stressed that ICCI should play role for early promulgation of a balanced rent control law to address this long-standing issue of trading community of the federal capital.
