Protest for release of medical superintendents

MIRPURKHAS – Doctors and the paramedical staff of taluka Hospital Kot Ghulam Muhammad held a demonstration outside the hospital on Monday to protest against the arrests of medical superintendents (MS) of Sukkur and Mehar in what they alleged in false cases.

Led by Medical Superintendent Dr Ashraf Nondani, Dr Parbhatgar, Dr Dildar Leghari, Dr Shamsul Haq, Dr Jan Muhammad Baloch, the protesters were wearing black bands around their arms and were raising slogans in support of their demands.

They strongly condemned the detention of Medical Superintendent (MS) of Mehar Dr Iqbal Siddique and MS of Sukkur in fabricated cases, saying they were punished for refusing to act upon the illegal directives of the deputy commissioner Sukkur.

They warned that they would not tolerate what they termed a conspiracy to defame the doctors because doctors treated the people without any discrimination.

They demanded the Sindh chief minister, chief justice of the Sindh High Court and other authorities concerned ensure release of their colleagues besides withdrawal of cases against them without any delay.

FOC throws its weight behind sit-in

Farmer’s Organization Council (FOC) Sindh Chairman Javed Ahmed Junejo has announced to support the Sindh Abadgar Board and Chamber of Agriculture’s call for a sit-in at National Highway near Hatri bypass on Dec 23, and has appealed to the growers to join it in large numbers. Talking to media here on Monday, he said that he and his colleague Ali Palh Advocate of Sindh Agriculture Research Council had decided to support the sit-in in the interest of sugarcane growers.

He made it clear that participation in the protest would be over and above political affiliation.

Junejo lamented that the Sindh government had not yet pressed the sugar mills’ owners to purchase sugarcane from the farmers as per its notification, according to which they were supposed to buy it at Rs182 per 40 kilogrammes.

He said that it was an open injustice with the sugarcane growers, and that everybody knew who was the cause of destruction of agriculture sector of Sindh. He hoped that the farmers would defeat the conspiracies against them by remaining united.
