CDA makes asphalt plant fully functional

The Capital Development Authority has made the Asphalt Mixing Plant in Machinery Pool Organization fully functional after 25 years of installation, said the Mayor.

The daily production capacity of the Korean Asphalt Mixing plant is 1500 kilogram per day; an amount that can carpet an area of 135 square feet. The Mayor was chairing a meeting to review the progress of MPO. The plant installed in MPO Workshop in 1993 remained nonfunctional due to which MPO had to award contract for carpeting of roads worth millions of rupees. With the plant becoming functional 11 months ago, some 200 kilometer road network in the federal capital has been carpeted. This has helped save Rs.120 million, said the CDA officials on Wednesday.

Mayor Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority, Sheikh Anser Aziz said that Asphalt Plant of MPO is the heaviest plant of Islamabad and that all major avenues and roads are being carpeted with the hot mix asphalt being produced from this plant. He said that the present regime has been taking measures for up-gradation of all directorates and equipping these formations with latest devices and machinery to make them more productive. He highlighted that asphalt mixing plant is one of the best examples, adding that we are in a position to participate in carpeting contract from other institutions. He said that MPO is no more a burden on MCI and has now become more productive and financially stable.

Mayor also said that the engines of eight out-of-order buses of CDA have been overhauled with complete painting work at MPO Workshop. Repair and maintenance work of 23 water tankers and bus of CDA Model School have also been completed in the workshop during the last 11 months. He said that hundred of vehicles of different formations are being sent to MPO Workshop for repair and maintenance work on daily basis.
