Teachers take to streets

Teachers Wednesday took to the streets for their rights. Demanding pay protection, pay time scale and one-step upgrade, dozens of teachers from different colleges staged a demo outside the Civil Secretariat on the call of Punjab.

Professors and Lectures Association (PPLA). The protesters said corrupt system has been depriving teachers of their just rights. A woman teacher said on anonymity that bureaucracy has been hindering welfare of most prestigious segment of society. Another protester said that the teachers have been waiting for their promotion for last many years but their ‘Annual Confidential Reports’ were not signed by authorities. According to sources, teachers put off the protest after officials concerned pledged to address their problems by January 20.
