30-year-old killed at gambling den

LAHORE – A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight ensued over betting amount at a gambling den in Nishtar Colony, police said on Thursday.

The deceased was identified by police as Muhammad Awais, who was at the gambling den when the clash erupted late Wednesday night.

Reportedly, some gamblers attacked Awais to snatch cash after he won some games. He was repeatedly stabbed by unidentified attackers, who managed to escape from the scene soon after his death.

Police said the victim was lying dead in a pool of blood as they reached the spot. The body was moved to the morgue for autopsy. A murder case was registered against unknown attackers on the complaint of Basharat, father of the deceased. The police were investigating the killing with no arrest made yet.

Gambling dens are strictly banned and operators are punished under criminal laws. But, according to a police report, hundreds of gambling dens are being run by influential individuals in different parts of the metropolis.
