Imran, Shoaib bat Asif Memorial to win
ISLAMABAD – Man in-form Ali Imran and Shoaib Khaliq helped Asif Memorial Club thrash mighty Essco by 42 runs in the Fazal Mahmood National Club Cricket Championship match here at Diamond Ground on Thursday.
Essco skipper won the toss and opted to field first. Sensational performance by 19-year-old Ali Imran had now scored a whopping 720 runs in six matches, with one double hundred, two tons and 350 plus scores with an average of 180 plus. He also grabbed 6 wickets as right-arm fast bowler and remained unbeaten twice.
Ali and opener Shoaib Khaliq scored massive 188 runs for the opening stand, which provided solid foundation to Asif Memorial Club, but later order batsmen failed to carry forward the momentum and could only score 264-5 in 40 overs. Ali Imran posted exactly 100 off 96 balls, smashing 10 fours and one six. It was a solid knock from the future of Pakistan cricket, while Shoaib hammered 82, hitting 7 fours. M Tanveer took 2-64.
Despite a solid start from Rizwan Ali (101*) and skipper Munir-ur-Rehman Tanzil (51), Essco were bowled out for 222 in 37.5 overs. Skipper Raheel Majeed played havoc with Essco batting as he grabbed 4-43, while Ahmed Ur Rehman took 2-38 and Ali Imran 1-34.
It is pertinent to mention here that ever since Ali Imran has been batting as an opener, runs are coming in bulks from his willow and it is a timely reminder to regional head Shakil Shaikh, that he must look at this brilliant kid, rather than providing opportunities to his blue-eyed players. He must ensure merit and talent like Ali Imran must be given his due share in the regional teams.
Bhutto Cricket Academy chief organiser Ch Wasif Bajwa announced Rs 10,000 cash for Ali Imran, Rs 10,000 cash for Raheel Majeed and Rs 5000 cash for Shoaib Khaliq, while Bhutto Cricket Academy chairman Ch Ajmal Sabir hosted a grand reception in honor of winning team and hoped the team will continue with same zeal and fervor to prove that they are number one club in the region. Asif Memorial Club president Ch Hassaan Asghar promised that soon Asif Memorial Club will give the country another international player, like Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Raheel Majeed and others.
