MQM-P to support victims of anti-encroachment drive

KARACHI – Muttahdia Qaumi Movement-Pakistan decided to advocate the victims of the anti-encroachment drive demanded to punish responsible involved in China-cutting.

MQM Pakistan Chief Dr Farooq Sattar in a press conference held at MQM-P temporary headquarter located at Bahadurabad showed concern over the demolition drive started by the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and other concern authorities. The MQM-P chief said that no action had been taken against the 90 percent land encroached and regularised by the government but action had been taken against the 10 percent encroachment labelled as China-cutting. He said that people of Karachi suffered because of the vote and support to the MQM Pakistan although the encroachment with the title of Goth and Katchi Abadi has been continue in the metropolis since last many decades.  

Satter said that the MQM Pakistan decided to provide political advocacy to the victims of current demolition drive and demanded to provide the alternate land to the victims. He said that MQM Pakistan would hold protest demonstration in the favour of encroachment drive victims and against the lethargic attitude of the Sindh government. 

He clarified that the protest remains not against the Supreme Court orders but against non serious attitude of the Sindh government. He urged that the Supreme Court must take action against the root cause of the issue. He said that the authorizes demolishing the developed housing societies and  asked that why not authorities took action when development works was continued in the city on amenity and other plots.?

He said that the government reluctant to do anything for the victims whom their houses were demolished during the anti-encroachment drive. He said that MQM Pakistan would start the visit of the areas demolished during the drive and started the political advocacy to the victims through set up the camps in the affected areas.

He pointed out that it’s impossible to occupy the lands without the support of the KDA officials. He added that the MQM Pakistan would stage protest demonstration at Karachi Press Club on Saturday. He said that the protest venue would be MA Jinnah Road and thousands of victims would be participating in the protest. He said that government avoids taking revenge from Karachiities, asked what 15000 homeless families would do after their houses have been demolished.

He said that we have to take stand if poor got punished for the crimes committed by land mafia.

Sattar said that poor people hardly managed to purchase the plots and constructed their house against their collective assets. He pointed out that the demolishing team razed the Okhai Memon Society have had destroyed that wasn’t constructed on China-cutting.
