No clue of missing Chinese supervisor yet

RAWALPINDI – The law enforcement agencies and the district administration are still clueless about the whereabouts of a supervisor of a Chinese company who mysteriously went missing from Karot Hydropower Project, Kahuta, sources said on Thursday.

The missing supervisor was identified as Liu, associated with Chinese company Sino Hydro Corporation, they added.

The top management of the district government and the police including Commissioner Nadim Aslam Chaudhry, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja, City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi, Superintendent of Police (SP) Saddar Circle Iftikharul Haq and personnel of other intelligence and LEAs had camped in Kahuta to trace the missing supervisor, sources said.

According to sources, the Chinese supervisor was working along with other labourers at Karot Hydropower project and left his residential-container at 3am on Wednesday for some work. However, Liu did not return to his container and went mysteriously missing.

After hearing the news police bosses and the district government officials rushed to Kahuta to trace out the missing supervisor.  So far, the police and personnel of security agencies have failed to find any clue of Liu, sources said.

They said police were investigating the case through different angles.  It was suspected that the Chinese supervisor might have drowned in the nearby river, sources said.

CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, when contacted, confirmed that a Chinese supervisor went missing from the site mysteriously.

He said police and other LEAs had launched an operation to find the missing supervisor.

“It is not clear so far as what actually happened with the Chinese national working at Karot Hydropower Project in Kahuta,” Abbasi said.  There are some unconfirmed reports that the Chinese supervisor was kidnapped by unidentified men from the site.

“No, it is not true that the Chinese supervisor Liu was kidnapped from the site because country’s top security agencies and departments are shielding the Chinese workers at Karot Hydropower project in Kahuta,” said a senior officer of an intelligence agency, while talking to The Nation.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Nadim Aslam Chaudhry and RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja were not available for their comments.

Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad Zhao Lijian did not offer his comments on the issue despite several phone calls and messages left on Whatsapp.
