Safe City Project helps cut crime rate

islamabad – Islamabad police have so far traced out over one thousand cases of various nature with the help of Safe City Project, it has been learnt.

The Safe City project has enabled ICT police to trace down criminal cases by giving timely information to police and respond them in an effective manner, according to the police high-ups. The project is being used effectively for monitoring and surveillance of the capital, they added.

The officials speaking to The Nation on condition of anonymity said that the project is contributing a lot in criminal investigations. They said so far 1,128 cases of assorted nature have been traced out by the police with the help of cameras installed under Islamabad Safe City Project.

Islamabad Safe City Project was inaugurated on June 6, 2016 and since then various operations are being run through Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police and Rescue-15 service in Command and Control Centre. According to the sources, the police stations are being informed accordingly regarding any suspicious person, vehicles motorbikes via wireless and other sources.

In addition to that activities of visitors as well as anti-social elements are being monitored round-the-clock through these cameras. Proactive strategy for providing better policing to general public of ICT for their security has been adopted and to control terrorism, crime and provide better services to public officials have been deployed at important points/wings. Moreover, the personnel deployed at various sites of the project are being briefed properly to check activities of visitors entering within ICT, said the police officials.

Safe City Project was envisioned to introduce Technology-led policing to make the security of capital city as a model of excellence. Under the project, Intelligence Video Surveillance and Vehicle Management System Cameras are installed in ICT with Automatic Number Plate Recognition facility. Situation rooms have been established at Safe City building and IGPs office to monitor and respond to specific situation in real time.
