Vendors deprived of livelihood

SADIQABAD –  Officials of the Tehsil Municipal Committee (TMC) were accused of depriving poor vendors of their livelihood under the guise of an operation against encroachments.

Talking to The Nation, public and social figures said that the TMC officials impounded carts of the fruit, vegetables and chicken vendors during a crackdown on encroachments on Link Road.

They lambasted the officials for turning a blind eye to the illegally established hotels and a rickshaw stand located in the same area. They told The Nation that they had called on Rahim Yar Khan Deputy Commissioner Socrat Aman Rana after the operation and informed him about the officials’ highhandedness.

They complained the DC about the officials’ partiality, saying they did not bother to go to the illegal hotels and rickshaw stand during the operation.

“It is because the alleged shares the officials have in monthly income of the hotels and rickshaw stand owners,” they claimed.

They demanded the DC to displace the rickshaw stand established illegally in front of a hospital. They also demanded TMC Chairman Ch Shafiq Pappa order the officials to return carts and goods of the vendors.
