Ring Road Southern Loop opens

LAHORE – Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the southern loop I & II constructed by the Lahore Ring Road Authority and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

Construction of this 22.4km long road in a record period of one year has connected southern and northern parts of Lahore. More than 100,000 passengers will travel on this international-quality road every day. The road is 90-metre wide with six lanes and as much interchanges for people to have easy access to important roads of the provincial metropolis.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Ring Road Southern Loop, the chief minister said this project was completed under the public-private partnership by the civil administration and the FWO and added that it was the best way to move the country forward. “We all shall work collectively to make the country stronger and prospers,” he said. He said that Ring Road Southern Loop Project was a high-example of quality, speedy completion and construction standards. He said the project could not have been completed before three years, but hit was completed in a record period of one year. He said that FWO director general and his team, Punjab government’s ministers, Chairperson of Ring Road Authority Abdullah Sumbul and his team deserved accolades. He said he had been accused of taking interest in road projects only. He said he had not only built roads but also developed magnificent institutions of health and education. He said work was in progress on the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI). Similarly, he said a lot of hospitals had been built across the province. If the road infrastructure is not in a better condition, people will face hurdles in reaching hospitals, educational institutions and offices, he said.

The chief minister said the credit of constructing motorway in the country goes to the government and leadership of the PML-N. He said Nawaz Sharif developed latest infrastructure in the country and people were reaping the benefits today. He said that ring road’s southern loop had been connected with the northern loop and IC-3. Solar lights have been installed at this important road.

Shehbaz said the horticulture model had been developed in collaboration with Turkey and the Punjab Horticulture Authority is beautifying this project.

Separately, a high-level parliamentarian delegation of Azad Jammu and Kashmir called on Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Monday. The delegation was led by AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan. Both leaders condemned the Indian brutalities against unarmed Kashmiri people in occupied Kashmir and violations of Line of Control.

On the occasion, the chief minister said that India must realise that Kashmiri people cannot be deprived of their inalienable right to independence. India cannot deprive Kashmiris of their right to self-determination through cruelties.

On the occasion, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had set new records of public welfare and Punjab province had been made a glowing example of development. The speed and work of Shehbaz is an example and people of other provinces are appreciative of the exemplary role played by him for development of Punjab. The Punjab government has given proof of its love for Kashmiris by providing resources for development of AJK, he added.

The AJK delegation consisted of ministers Syed Shaukat, Ch Aziz, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee Chaudhry Muhammad Ishaq, members of the Legislative Assembly Mian Yasir Rashid, Javed Akhter, Raja Muhammad Siddique and others. Provincial Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran and others were also present on the occasion.
