Heaps of garbage speak volumes about apathy

SIALKOT – The rising trash heaps in Sialkot city’s almost all the residential, commercial and industrial areas leave a question mark on the performance of Sialkot Municipal Corporation and Sialkot Waste Management Company.

The garbage produces ill-smell and suffocation besides creating environmental pollution in Sialkot city. Sialkot city’s business, social, religious and political circles have expressed grave concern over this critical condition. They have urged the officials of the Sialkot Waste Management Company (SWMC) and Sialkot Municipal Corporation to ensure early lifting of trash from all parts of the Sialkot city and ensure their dumping at the suitable places.

They also urged the officials concerned to ensure early repairing of all the broken tractor-trolleys of Sialkot Municipal Corporation. The officials of Sialkot Waste Management Company said that the people in Sialkot city produce 400 tons garbage daily.

Local PTI leaders Umer Dar, Usman Dar and Arif Ahmed Khawaja have also expressed grave concerns over the situation. They said that it was the prime obligation of the local bodies to provide cleanliness facilities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation Ch Bashir Ahmed said that the Sialkot Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs170 million for the purchase of land in outskirts of Sialkot city for establishing a garbage dumping point.

He added that Sialkot had been lacking any garbage dumping point for the last several decades, due to which the Corporation’s sanitation staff had also been facing a great ordeal in dumping garbage. He said that the Sialkot Municipal Corporation has allocated the funds for establishing a dumping point while officials have started searching suitable land in outskirts of Sialkot city for the purpose.


District and Session Judge (DSJ) Sialkot Abdul Qayyum Khan visited Sialkot District Jail. He met with the male and female prisoners and listened to their problems. He assured the early amicable solution to their problems.

The DSJ also checked the jail meals, besides, visiting the jail hospital and inspecting the health and medical facilities being provided to the jail inmates. He reviewed the security measures, CCTV cameras; walk through gates and mobile phone jammers at Sialkot jail as well.

He ordered the release of 10 prisoners on his guarantee. ADCG Sialkot Meesam Abbas, Sialkot DPO Asad Sarfraz Khan, office bearers of Sialkot DBA were also present on this occasion. BAZAARS: District administration established five X-mass bazaars in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsil. These bazaars have been established for facilitating the local Christians by ensuring the provision of good quality items.
