Inter-Provincial Games begin tomorrow

ISLAMABAD – More than 3,500 athletes will try their luck in the second edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games, set to be held from December 25 to 29 here at Pakistan Sports Complex.

Total 20 categories would be held during the five-day event, in which eight units of the country including Punjab, KP, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Fata will take part. In all, 158 gold, 158 silver and 578 bronze medals would be on offer.  Talking to The Nation, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Akhtar Ganjera said: “I have held detailed meetings with the representatives of the different boards and we are trying to conduct the games as per international standard. Last time, it was decided to announce champions on the basis of points, but this time, it is decided that the overall champion would be declared on the basis of medals.”

He said out of 20 disciplines, 12 competitions would be male and female, while the remaining competitions would be specifically for males only. “Only a day has left in the games and we are working on war-footings to make the games a success. A committee was formed to conduct the games in a trend-setting manner.

“The athletics events will be held in Jinnah Stadium, badminton in Rodham Hall, football outer stadium, hockey at Naseer Bunda Stadium, judo in bio-mechanical lab, karate in Liaqat Gymnasium hall, netball in Hamidi Hall, squash events in Mushaf Mir Complex, table tennis in Hamidi Hall, taekwondo in Aamir Khan Boxing Hall, tennis in PSB hard courts, volleyball in Liaqat Gymnasium, baseball in PSB Complex, boxing in Liaqat Gymnasium, circle kabbadi Jinnah Stadium, snooker in snooker hall, weightlifting in Jinnah Weightlifting hall, wrestling in Basketball Hall, Wushu in Aamir Khan Boxing Hall,” Ganjera concluded.
