CEJ, ICRC award journalists for excellence in

humanitarian reporting

KARACHI (PR): To acknowledge good journalism conducted in the field of humanitarian reporting, the Centre for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration (CEJ-IBA), Karachi and the International Committee of the Red Cross recently organised the Humanitarian Reporting Award 2017. The awards were given in three categories: mainstream broadcast (Urdu), mainstream print and online (Urdu) and mainstream print and online (English) for news stories published between November 1, 2016 to November 9, 2017. The ceremony kicked off with a welcome note by Director CEJ Kamal Siddiqi, who shared some details of CEJ’s collaboration with ICRC that began with Humanitarian Reporting Workshops and concluded with these awards.

Business and Biodiversity Platform at PQA

KARACHI (PR): IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) and leading private sector companies of Pakistan jointly launched Pakistan’s first Business and Biodiversity Platform (BBP) at a ceremony held at PQA. The Platform is a unique initiative focusing on nature conservation through the collective support of the private sector. The launching ceremony was organised at PQA and presided over by Chairman PQA Agha Jan Akhtar.

Attending the ceremony were the members of IUCN, leading businesses, the initiating members of the platform, environmental experts and representatives from Sindh Forest Department.

Chairman PQA Agha Jan Akhtar said, “There are environmental issues associated with the industrial developments which are required to be addressed in order to avoid long-term impacts on the coastal ecosystems and people.” Being a regulatory authority, he added, PQA is mandated to ensure that business operations are undertaken in environment friendly manner in the port area through mitigation of negative impacts such as pollution, cutting of mangroves, degradation of fisheries resources and displacement of local communities. “The establishment of Business & Biodiversity platform is indeed a positive step and a good opportunity for the private sector to step ahead to improve their brand image both locally and internationally with the support of reputable conservation organisations like IUCN,” the chairman concluded Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth League

KARACHI (PR): Liyari Blue Football Club won the Girls and Shireen Jinnah Football Club won the U-12 Boys Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth League Final which was recently held in Karachi. Earlier, Korangi and Malir had won the U-14 and U-16 boys editions respectively. This league was sponsored by Standard Chartered, as part of its community service mandate to promote sports amongst children. The final tournament was held at the Karachi United Stadium and was attended by more than 500 spectators hailing from different areas of Karachi. The finals witnessed competitive fixtures and ended with the Shireen Jinnah Football Club boys U12 scoring in the last 5 minutes to seal the victory.  The objective of the “Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth League” was to provide a platform for Youth football teams from across Karachi who came together, broke barriers and inculcated the spirit of competition.

 A total of twelve boys’ and seven girls’ teams participated in the league which kicked off at Karachi United Stadium on 23rd September 2017. A total of 700 boys and girls from across Karachi participated in this tournament. 121 matches were played in eight different locations including Old Golimar, Clifton, Malir, Baldia, Liyari, Korangi and Mauripur.

 General Tyre MD bags award

KARACHI (PR): Hussain Kuli Khan, Chief Executive Officer/MD of General Tyre, has been awarded one of the best performing CEOs award in Pakistan. The award was presented by Mohammad Zubair, Governor Sindh, during 16th CEO Summit Asia held in Karachi. The event was organized by the CEO Club of Pakistan.
