438 city churches host Christmas services

LAHORE – The Christian community in the city, like other parts of the world, celebrated Christmas with religious zeal and fervour.

Small and large scale special Christmas services were held at 438 churches in the city, including two main services at the Lahore Cathedral. Bishop Irfan Jamil led the service at Lahore Cathedral and Archbishop Sebastian Shah at Sacred Heart Cathedral.  Christmas trees at all churches remained the centre of attraction on the eve of Christmas. On the other hand, people decorated their homes with Christmas trees and illuminations. In Christian-majority areas, including Green Town, Nishtar Colony, Youhanabad, Hamza Town and Bahar Colony, streets were decorated to celebrate the religious festival.

Due to security concerns, there was no fanfare this year. After Christmas services, people greeted each other and presented Christmas cakes. Most of the families preferred to spend the afternoon at home.  Also, in line with the tradition, Santa Claus distributed gifts to children.
