South Punjab marks Jesus Christ birth anniversary

MULTAN –  The Christmas, the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ (AS), was celebrated by the Christian community with religious fervour here in entire South Punjab amid tight security on Monday.

Special prayers and services were held at the churches which were largely attended by the Christians in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions. The churches were illuminated and decorated with Christmas trees, lights and buntings. The prayers were followed by Christmas cake cutting functions at all the churches. The participants also observed silence and lit candles in memory of victims of Quetta tragedy.

Strict security arrangements were made at the venues of Christmas functions to avert any untoward incident. Police commandoes were deployed at all churches while cops in plain clothes were also appointed to keep secret vigil.

In Multan, the main Christmas function was held at Saint Merry’s Church. In order to avoid any terrorism incident, all the participants of Christmas functions were frisked with metal detectors prior to their entry into the churches. The contingents of Elite Force, reserve police and ladies staff had been deployed for Christmas duty.
