Team should continue winning streak against Kiwis: Younus
KARACHI – Former captain Younus Khan Monday said that Pakistan should continue its winning streak in limited overs cricket in the five-match ODI and three-match T20I series against New Zealand next month.
Younus, who is top run scorer in Test cricket, said that Pakistan should play cricket with the traditional style and it will be their key to success. “It is very important for them to continue playing with the style they’ve been playing recently, especially in the Champions trophy and against Sri Lanka,” he said while stressing that Pakistan must not change its style of cricket. “We are known for playing positive cricket and we achieve victory every time we play a positive brand of cricket,” he added.
Younus said that the tour is a great opportunity for the youngsters to perform and prove their capability to those, who criticise the team and say performance is due to home conditions. “When you do something good in home conditions, people rarely acknowledge it,” he said. “But, when you do something in England, Australia or New Zealand then everyone notices it and acknowledges you as the top player, so this is a good opportunity for the youngsters to prove themselves,” he added.
The former captain expressed confidence that youngsters will perform in New Zealand. “We have a young team under a young captain and players want to do something. The team’s morale is high after winning Champions’ Trophy and boys are highly skilled to achieve the win,” he said.
Replying to a query, Younus said that it is not suitable to term any tour as a challenge or a test as such talk piles on undue pressure on the players before the series. “Saying that Australia, New Zealand or England is a real challenge adds undue pressure on players. We must not put such pressure on the players, we must support them and give them confidence that they can win a lot for the country,” he concluded.
