Women among 12 perish in road crashes

TOBA TEK SINGH/ khanewal/ – As many as 12 persons including four of a same people, two of them women, died and six others got injured in road accidents occurred in different areas of Punjab on Monday.

According to police, four people died and one sustained critical injuries after a speeding bus ran over a car travelling with a marriage procession near Pakka Morr Khatan on Haroonabad Road in Bahawalnagar district. The incident occurred in jurisdiction of Haroonabad Saddr police. The deceased were identified as Shahid, Aslam, Nasir and Hoshyar Ali. One who sustained injuries in the accident was a 16-year-old boy namely Osama. All of them were residents of Chak Gulab Ali. They were on the way to Dunyapur in a car along with a marriage procession when a speeding bus hit the vehicle head-on. The bus driver managed his escape. Locals gathered at site of the accident and set ablaze the bus in protest.

In Toba Tek Singh, three persons were crushed to death after the motorbike they were travelling on was run over by a bus at Gojra, Toba Tek Singh. The deceased were identified as Nasrullah, Saeed and Yousuf. They were on the way to Gojra from Chak 362/JB on a motorbike. As they reached near Adda Korian on Gojra-Faisalabad Road, a Multan-bound bus from Faisalabad ran over the bike, killing them on the spot.

In Kasur, a man was killed while five others sustained critical injuries in fog-related accidents. Abid, resident of Lahore, was driving a poultry truck to Kasur. Near Mandi Morr Khuddian, the truck he was driving rammed into a container from the rear. Resultantly, Abid was killed on the spot. The incident occurred due to poor visibility amidst dense fog. Similarly, another poultry truck hit a container from the rear. This fog-triggered accident occurred near Old Lorry Adda, Khuddian. It left three persons including Akhtar, Zameer and Kamran with critical injuries. In another incident, a motorcyclist, Naveed, resident of Baigpur, was injured after the motorbike he was driving was hit by a Grid Station, Khuddian Khas. Another motorcyclist, Sajjad, was injured after he was hit by a truck while crossing Multan Road at Phoolnagar.

In Khanewal, four members of a same family were killed in collision between a trailer and a car here late the other night.

The tragic accident occurred when a trailer, overtaking another vehicle, collided head-on with a car, coming from opposite direction in Kabirwala. Resultantly, a woman, her son, daughter and 10-year-old grandson died on the spot. Her second daughter also sustained critical wounds.

Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the dead and injured to THQ Hospital Kabirwala. The deceased included Fatima Bibi, her son Haji Sultan and grandson Samar Sultan.
