Victims denied justice in human trafficking hub

SIALKOT-There are only two Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) police stations in Gujranwala Division, the hub of human traffickers, having more than 150 million population.
As a result, a big number of inquiries and cases have been lying pending with the regional office. The applicants are very much perturbed and facing great ordeal while waiting for their turn regarding the applications submitted for curbing human trafficking.
The Gujranwala Division is stated to be the hub of human traffickers, their agents and sub agents, who fleece the innocent people by getting big amounts after showing them the golden dreams of their lucid future abroad.
The victims said that the despite the high claims of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), human trafficking is increasing day by day as the region has only two police stations – one each at Gujranwala and Gujrat – with just 16 investigation officers to cater for Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din , Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.
The local FIA officials said that the shortage of the staff and investigation officers at the office is resulting in the inordinate delay in in inquiries. They said that normally, it should take a maximum period of three months for providing justice and relief for the applicants after completing the inquiries. They said that hundreds of applications have been lying unattended at the FIR regional offices and getting rust while waiting for their turn to be inquired.
There is no action on several applications for the last one year, due to which the applicants are becoming disappointed and questioning the performance of the FIA leaving big question marks on it. The perturbed people complained that they had to visit the FIA regional offices for inquiry but when they reach there the FIA investigators were often found absent from their duties. They have expressed grave concern over the critical situation.
They urged the government to ensure early appointment of additional staff and investigators at FIA regional offices in Gujranwala to jazz up inquiries against human traffickers in the region.
Meanwhile, FIA teams arrested three human traffickers including a proclaimed offender from Gujranwala, Gujrat and Phalia. Deputy Director Mufakhar Adeel said that accused Amir Shahzad, Naveed and Jamshed were involved in sending people abroad illegally.
MPA MEETS WITH NAWAZ: A Chawinda-based MPA, who is also president of PML-N’s Germany chapter, called on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at his residence in Raiwind, Lahore.
He said that they discussed in details the matters of mutual interest including the regional politics and development works. Rana Liaqat Ali expressed complete confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
Later, talking to newsmen in Sialkot, MPA Liaqat Ali said that the politically mature people would again bring the PML-N to power and it would win the 2018 general elections with heavy mandate. He said that only the PML-N had the full capabilities to pull the country out of crises and curb the menace of energy crisis and putting the country on the highway to the stability.
BID TO SMUGGLE HEROIN FOILED: Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled a major attempt of heroin smuggling from Sialkot to Dubai via Bahrain at Sialkot International Airport.
According to the senior ASF officials, the ASF officials over suspicion checked an accused passenger Sarbaz Khan, a resident of Mingora-Swat.
During the checking, the ASF officials seized 1kg fine quality heroin , secretly kept in the hidden parts of his bags. The ASF foiled the major attempt of heroin smuggling to Dubai and Bahrain. Later, the ASF officials handed over the accused to the Anti-Narcotics Forces (ANF) which has sent the accused behind bars after registering a case.
