IHC orders removal of Shahab’s name from ECL

ISLAMABAD –  The Islamabad High Court on Friday directed the federal government to remove the name of former federal minister Makhdoom Shahabud Din from the exit control list.

In this regard, a single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani allowed a petition of the former PPP-P federal minister Makhdoom Shahabud Din who was seeking removal of his name from the ECL.

The former federal minister stated in his petition that a case for illegal award of ephedrine quota was registered against him on political basis and later, his name was put on the ECL.

Shahab prayed before the court to direct the Interior Ministry to remove his name from the ECL as he wanted to go abroad for medical treatment.

Ephedrine is a chemical substance used in manufacturing some drugs.

As per allegations levelled against Shahab, in 2010 two pharmaceutical companies were awarded ephedrine quota exceeding the limits fixed by the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

Besides Makhdoom Shahab, Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son Ali Musa Gillani and several others are also facing the trial on same charges.
