National exhibition attracts visitors at PNCA


ISLAMABAD: A two-month long National Exhibition representing all provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir is attracting a large number people here at Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

The exhibition was aimed at paying tribute to renowned artists including Iqbal Jafri, Mian Aijazul Huassan, Colin David, Saeed Akhtar, Ahmed Khan, Zulqurnain Haider, Mansur Rahi, Basheer Ahmed and Hajra Mansoor. 

These artists are the Icons of Pakistani art and have contributed their best to the promotion of art in Pakistan, Director General PNCA Syed Jamal Shah said. He said that 9th National Exhibition is being revived after a gap of 13 years as a regular annual event.

Prior to the big event, PNCA organized a series of regional exhibitions representing all provinces, which were given relevant context according to the cultural heritage of the land such as; from Mehergarh to Quetta, from Harappa to Lahore via Katas, from Akra to Peshawar via Takht Bai, from Mohenjo-Daro to Karachi via Makli and from Takht bai to Islamabad, he said.

The exhibition includes works of almost 500 artists from all over the country. Artists have used broad spectrum of formats and techniques including painting, sculpture, calligraphy, photography, miniature installations and videos.  

The exhibition displayed a highly diversified range of experimentation both in two-dimensional work, and other works including sculpture, installations and videos. It is hoped that the work will generate dialogue, discussion and creative discourse as the purpose of this exhibition is to stimulate the artist’s mind, open new horizons and promote arts and culture through this national platform. –APP


FBISE extends date for submission of admission forms


ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has extended the date of submission of admission forms for inter level examination 2018 till January 8.

Earlier, the last date for submission of forms was January 2 with single fee, said an official of the FBISE here on Friday. The principals of the colleges had complained about January 2 as last date for submission of forms, saying that due to winter holidays most of the students would not be able to submit their forms for examinations. Therefore, the future of many students would be affected. However, FBISE took notice of the situation and extended the date for submissions of forms till January 8.–APP


AIOU holds seminar on Islamic concept of Ijtihad


ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University held a seminar to promote Islamic concept of Ijtihad for addressing the contemporary socio-economic issues.

It was part of the series of `Khutbat-e-Islamabad’ arranged by the University’s Department of Islamic Thoughts, Culture and History.

Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui in his message on the occasion said such discourse and discussion to help construct and disseminate knowledge, relating to Islamic thoughts that are relevant to the present’s day society.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui underlined the important role of educational institutions in projecting Islamic teaching and addressing the socio-economic issues, faced by the people. Eminent Islamic scholar Prof Dr Yousaf Farooqi was the key-note speaker who highlighted various Quranic verses elaborating the concept of Ijtihad and its relevance to the society. Others who spoke on the occasion included Dean Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies Dr Mohyuddin Hashmi, Dr Baqar Khakwani, Dr Ghulam Yousaf, and Dr Muhammad Sajjad. 

They spoke about importance of ‘Ijtihad ‘an intellectual endeavour to seek the solutions to day to day matters. Ijtihad has been much emphasized in Islam.–APP


Mother of Nawa-i-Waqt Group

IT professional dies

ISLAMABAD (PR): Mother of IT Professional Nawa-e-Waqt Group Khalid Khan has died here on Friday.  Her funeral prayer has been performed in the Sekandari Korona area. Later, she was buried in the local graveyard. Special fateha was offered for the deceased soul in the Mosque of Nawa-i-Waqt after Magreb prayer.
