Mayor asks Works Dept to complete projects on time

KARACHI – Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar, while expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of Works Department, has directed the concerned officers to ensure timely completion of all development works.

He was presiding over a meeting here on Friday which was attended by the chairman works committee Hasan Naqvi, chairman works (M&E) Khalid Ajmeri, advisor to Mayor Farhat Khan, Director General Tech Works Shahab Anwer, director coordination Masood Alam, director technical S M Shukaib, chief engineers of all districts of Karachi and other officers. The mayor during the meeting reviewed the ongoing development schemes in the city, and also discussed with the officials their importance for the citizens. He said, “Anybody can do lot of work if he gets the funds, powers and favourable conditions, but despite all this we have to keep it under consideration that the people have elected us for solution to their problems and we have to make all-out efforts to solve these problems at the earliest.” He said the officers should refrain from using delaying tactics and finish their assignments within the time so that the file work and implementation of plan could be saved from stagnation. Wasim said henceforth chief engineers of the concerned districts will be responsible for the uplift schemes being carried out in their jurisdiction and they will have to face action if development works were not completed in time. He also directed the officers to complete 122 development schemes worth Rs318 million immediately and also carry out construction work on Mirza Adm Khan Road and Boat Basin Road with the provincial ADP.

The mayor also instructed officers of the Works Department to ensure teamwork especially in welfare-oriented works so that people could get relief immediately.

He said annual maintenance tenders should be started and the maintenance of roads, bridges, flyovers and underpasses be carried out with these tenders so that city’s infrastructure could be kept in a better condition.
