Minister orders flu awareness campaign

LAHORE – Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Kh Salman Rafiq has directed launching awareness campaign regarding precautionary measures to avoid falling prey to influenza (H1N1). Chairing a meeting to review situation of influenza on Saturday, he directed ensuring availability of medicines and vaccines at hospitals.  Minister for Primary & Secondary Healthcare Kh Imran Nazir, Secretary SH&ME Najam Ahmed Shah, Secretary P&SH Ali Jan Khan, Director General Health Services Dr Akhtar Rasheed, Dr Ess Muhammad, Dr Naeem-ud-Din Mian and officers of both the health departments attended the meeting. Medical superintendents of hospitals in other districts attended the meeting through video link.

Kh Salman Rafiq said that high risk groups like elderly people, pregnant women and children should be given special care. On appearing symptoms, he said, people should immediately approach qualified doctor or the hospital.

Kh Imran Nazir said that all the district health authorities have nominated focal persons and special monitoring teams for hospitals. He said that all doctors, nurses and hospital staff should wear preventive kits while handling patients.
