UBG again sweeps FPCCI elections
LAHORE – The United Business Group (UBG) has once again swept the elections of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for 2018 term for the fourth consecutive time by winning 12 seats out of the total 13 slots.
The UBG’s presidential candidate Ghazanfar Balour was unofficially elected by defeating Senator Haji Ghulam Ali of BMP with the margin of 54 votes, as he secured 181 votes against 127 votes to his rival out of total cast vote of 321. However, the total vote of FPCCI is 341.
According to unofficial results, the UBG won all the leading seats including the slots of president and the senior vice president. The provisional results showed that the UBG nominated candidates for vice presidents have also won 10 seats out of 11. Two candidates for vice president have already been elected unopposed, one being a UBG candidate from Punjab Irfan Yusuf and the other from BMP, Balochistan. Mazhar Ali Nasir another nominee of the UBG defeated Mian Nasir Hayat Magoo for senior vice president. For the reserve seats of Women Chamber, Saeeda Bano was elected. Similarly, another businesswoman Shabnam Zafar has been elected vice president and made history after contesting and winning the seat allotted to Sindh Chamber. The provisional results show the UBG nominees, including Waheed Ahmed, Zahid Saeed, Tariq Haleem and Karim Aziz Malik, to have also secured all the four seats in the Association Class.
UBG chairman Iftikhar Malik congratulated the business community on the historic win and vowed to serve the business community by eliminating the core issues that are impeding growth of the economy.
UBG Chairman said that the result of election indicates confidence of business community in the UBG policies. He said that UBG believes in rule of law, promotion of democratic system and strengthening of national economy by safeguarding the interests of traders. He said that FPCCI will continue to work with the sole objective to forward solid proposals to the government for economic progress and prosperity. He said that despite unprecedented crisis at national level, all efforts were made to restore the confidence of the business community.
On the occasion, SM Munir hailed the business community for reposing confidence in UBG in the larger interests of the economy of the country. He said the UBG would continue to serve the business community in the larger interest of economy and would urge the government to form business-friendly policies.
Speaking on the occasion, newly elected VP and FPCCI regional chairman Irfan Yusuf said that he will try his best to serve the interests of business community. He said that sweeping of all important FPCCI seats with a thumping majority clearly reflects the confidence of business community in judicious policies being followed by the group leadership.
Irfan Yusuf said that business community decided to vote for UBG keeping in view the policies of UBG and its efforts against corruption.
Business fraternity across the country felicitated the United Business Group (UBG) for sweeping of all FPCCI seats with a thumping majority which clearly reflects their confidence in judicious policies being followed by the group leadership.
They said that UBG leaders should now evolve a roadmap for year 2018 and ensure its implementation in true spirit. They said that outgoing FPCCI body under the leadership of UBG had made the federation corruption-free and hoped that new body would follow their footmarks. While felicitating for victory in FPCCI elections for year 2018, they urged UBG leaders to keep core committees on as it would help them to consult and get feedback from top to bottom.
