Rs90m tax defaulters patronised by ‘rulers’

SIALKOT – The Excise and Taxation Department has issued final recovery notices to 5,700 chronic defaulters including educationists, industrialists and doctors of the professional taxes in this region.

According to the senior E&T Department officials, they were chronic defaulters of Rs90 million and reluctant to clear their pending arrears by using their complete political influence and neglecting the repeated recovery notices.

The E&T authorities have advised them to pay their outstanding dues within the final deadline of next two weeks ending on January 15, 2018 otherwise their institutions would be sealed.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has expanded its “Saaf Dehaat Programme” by allocating Rs4.38 billion to the rural areas across the Punjab.

Provincial Minister for Local Bodies Punjab Mansha Ullah Butt presiding over a meeting of the district administration reviewed the progress of programme aimed to provide better cleanliness facilities. MPAs Ch Ikram, Arshad Javaid Warraich, Deputy Commissioner Dr Farrukh Naveed, ADCG Meesam Abbas and senior officials of the Sialkot District Council also attended the meeting.

He asked the heads of local bodies to play their active role in the transparent use of the budget on the project in 3,281 union councils (UCs) of Punjab.
